Reversing tubes is better than IVF for many women. Though many doctor’s first thought will be IVF, tubal reversal is often better, not only cheaper, it allows women to feel whole again and to conceive naturally.
Tubal Reversal Surgeon Charles Monteith, MD, addressed this in a blog article he published today – Reversing Tubes Or IVF: Which Is Better? – He says that in many cases tubal reversal surgery provides the best chance at becoming pregnant after a tubal ligation procedure.
In this video Tubal Reversal Surgeon Gary Berger, MD answers this question Medical Director of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center discusses the pros and cons of tubal reversal vs. IVF with a couple wanting a baby after a tubal ligation.
Excerpt from Video Transcript
Dr. Berger: And so I have arrived at the opinion based on good facts not just my own personal belief. Actually based on excellent evidence that repairing the tubes really provides a realistic hope for pregnancy. I have developed a much more liberal attitude about this than many doctors have who are reluctant to recommend tubal surgery because it is complicated or doesn’t have very high success rates. But we really see the opposite. This is a safe and I try to make it a very comfortable operation with a high pregnancy success rate.
TR Patient: That is good to know.
TR Spouse: That is good to know because we have talked to doctors that look at the operative report and immediately say IVF. And we just didn’t want to go that route.
Dr. Berger: I would be interested to hear why you did not want to go through the route of IVF.
TR Patient: It’s expensive.
Although tubal reversal surgery is not right for everyone, in most cases it is the most successful and most cost-effective option for pregnancy after sterilization, and should be considered before IVF
One way to determine whether tubal reversal surgery is the best option for you is through an interpretation of the operative report from your tubal ligation. With this information, the doctor is able to provide feedback on the type of sterilization that was performed and the amount of tube that may be remaining after the reversal. For a free consultation with a tubal reversal nurse who will help you obtain these records and a review by Doctors Berger and Monteith call Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center on (919) 968-4656 or go to http://www.tubal-reversal.net/free-tubal-reversal-consultation.htm
